Medic Up! Episode # 10 – Lacey Spencer from Nightwatch Nation & Me

I have one of the Rockstar paramedics from Nightwatch Nation on the show, LACEY SPENCER from EAST BATON ROUGE EMS. Lacey is as high speed as they come, literally: street medic, bike medic, SWAT medic, East Baton Rouge EMS Paramedic of the Year 2015, Louisiana State Paramedic of Year 2015 and now TV star showcasing EMS on a national level!!

I hope you guys and girls have been watching the new season of A & E’s Nightwatch  Nation! It’s a spin-off of the wildly popular Nightwatch that originally followed New Orleans EMS Paramedics and EMTs during their night shifts. Now, Nightwatch NATION follows EMS crews from Tucson, AZ, Austin, TX, Yonkers, NY and Baton Rouge, LA on their respective night shifts.

A&E did an OUTSTANDING JOB showcasing EMS around the country.  If you haven’t watched it, shoot over to www.aetv.com and check it out.  There’s plenty of clips online as well as full episodes if you sign in with your cable or satellite provider.

Clink on the links below to check out Lacey’s IG, it’s pretty solid.

Read about her being awarded 2015 20East Baton Rouge EMS Paramedic of the Year AND the Louisiana State Paramedic of the Year.

Medic Up! Episode # 9 – Clardy & Me: 2 Medics Talking – Part 2

Medic Up! Episode # 9 – Clardy & Me: 2 Medics Talking – Part 2
When we recorded this it felt like we had 2 very distinct conversations. As I was editing I noticed that there were very natural segues to the different topics we covered. There was a comment that Clardy made that stood out, “This job changes people.” And just like that we started down a path that many providers have been travelling. Some stroll, some trudge, some claw inch-by-inch on their hands and knees hoping to finish the trek and, unfortunately, some don’t make it.
The tough calls, the hours, the years, the stress, the struggles at work and at home all play a role. Maybe your mantra has been “Help others and you help yourself.” Maybe you’ve started to notice signs of burnout, compassion fatigue and depression in your partner maybe you notice them in yourself. You want to say something but you don’t want to be “weak.”
I could go on about resilience, self-care and psychological first aid but I won’t. Just listen to the episode. I want you to listen to the sincerity and concern. Any provider of ANY experience level will take something away from this.  As Clardy says at the end of his Gameball posts: “Take care of your patients,  take care of yourselves and most of all; take care of yourselves because we’re all we’ve got out there.”

Medic Up! Episode #8 – Clardy & Me: 2 Medics Talking – Part 1

Medic Up! Episode #8 – Clardy & Me: 2 Medics Talking – Part 1

EXACTLY 366 days since the last episode was uploaded!!!

Welcome back everyone to the Medic Up! Podcast. We took a little break there for a minute. A “hiatus” if you will. Just over 365 days since the last episode was posted. But guess what  we’re back. I’d like to take a second to thank all of the local boys and girls who, over this past year, have diligently asked, “When are you going to post another episode?” Also the messages via text and social media I’ve gotten as well. Thank you all for the support, encouragement and your patience!

So, if you’ve just been filling the hours listening to other podcasts over this last year, just waiting with baited breath for the next episode of Medic Up! to show up on your podcast app, well, you dont have to wait any longer because here it is!

My good friend, “Clardy” is sitting across from me today and I’ve been waiting a long time for this to happen. We planned this over a year ago but you know it goes;  people get busy, life gets in the way and before you know it, it’s 1 year later. But, here we are and this is happening now. I struggled with a theme for this but deep down I think I knew where we would end up. This is just 2 medics talking. Just like what happens when you put 2 or medics in station/post/ambulance/squad etc. They start shootin’ the shit, telling war stories, reminiscing about how it “used to be” how they came up and what keeps them going. THAT my friends is this episode.

There are a lot of names used in this episode. So many, I probably need to get release forms. I kinda wimped out and edited out a few last names only because I really didn’t know how each person would react. It’s just 2 medics talking. Talking about people, the past, the future the good the bad coming up in the job, where the job is going. We’ll talk about Clardy’s gameballs and a few other things that crossed our minds. We talked for 2/12 hrs. So this is a 2 parter. So here it is:

2 Medics Talking About Starting out, Coming Up, Gameballs and Clardy’s Dad Calls the Pope.
