Ep. 27 Jessica Arno aka @combatmidwife
I’m joined on the podcast by Jessica Arno to share tales of catching babies & teaching US service members the best in combat casualty care. Jessica has been affectionately dubbed: “The Combat Midwife’ by the over 10,000 US Army combat medics she has taught since 2004. She’s a Certified Professional Midwife, Paramedic, & EMS educator who has a passion for OB/Gyn and pediatric emergencies. Jessica has been instructing classes for Midwives, EMTs and Paramedics, for over 10 years. Recently, Jessica has taught at the E.C.H.O. annual conference, which stands for Every Coast Helicopter Operations and EMS Pro Expo. There Jessica discussed prehospital OB topics that included: breech and shoulder dystocia deliveries in the field setting and assessment and management of postpartum hemorrhage. She has also written for EMS World Magazine regarding OB/Gyn emergencies and EMS engagement with out of hospital birth providers teaching EMS how to navigate the out of hospital birth transfer. So, listen up as Jessica aka the Combat Midwife gives us some tips and tricks for reducing anxiety and setting yourself and your patients up for success during out of hospital births and transfers.
